Troop Information 2013-2014

During the course of the year, we will be involved in activities with emphasis on the Girl Scout program goals which will enable each child to:

  1. Develop to their full potential.
  2. Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect.
  3. Develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making.
  4. Contribute to the improvement of society.
The Promise Center, Petals, Leaves and Journey Badges
Last year, as a first-year Daisy troop, the girls earned the Promise Circle and Learning Petals.  Each petal represents a part of the Girl Scout Law, and the center of the Daisy represents the Girl Scout promise.

This year, our second year as a Daisy troop,  we will focus on earning leaves, fun badges and maybe a Journey badge.

Each Daisy plays an important part in the decisions that are made that effect how the troop operates.  We will share ideas, listen to others and achieve a consensus on decisions.

Meetings
Our regular troop meetings will be on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, after school, at the leader's home.  We will provide a snack for the girls.  Please let us know if there are any allergies that we need to be aware of.  There will not be any meetings on days when school is closed.  Check our calendar for a list of our meeting dates and special activities.

Uniform
We recommend that each girl have a blue Daisy Girl Scout Tunic, and wear it to each troop meeting and special event.  Other Daisy clothing items may be worn, but are not required for our troop.  The cost for the tunic $14.50 for size S/M (6-7), and $15 for size L/XL (8-10).  A few other standard uniform badges will be needed for the uniform.  A list will be provided at the Parent's Meeting.

It is not required to purchase the Daisy Girls' Guide to Girl Scouting.  It contains information on badges and being a Daisy scout.  I have a copy that we will use for the troop's needs.

The Girl Scout items may be purchased locally at the Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles shop at 9 West Market Street (next to Tally Ho).  They are also available from the Girl Scout Online shop, the Girl Scout Mini Shop in Centerville, VA, and the Girl Scout Mobile Shop that comes to Leesburg once a month.

Dues
We have established dues for each Daisy to support the troop this year.  The dues will cover the costs of the Girl Scout, patches tab, pins, special events, supplies and snacks for the year. Please make checks payable to "Troop 1138".  Financial assistance is available upon request.

Folders
Please check the accordion file for your daughter's name at the end of each meeting.  We will place any new information for the troop, and details for upcoming events, in these folders.

Fund Raising
Daisy Girl Scouts are allowed to participate in fund-raising activities.  This includes Fall Product sales of nuts/candy/magazines, and Winter/Spring sales of Girl Scout cookies.   The parents and their daughters together will decide if this is an activity for our troop to participate in.

Troop List
For privacy purposes, we will not post the troop contact list on this site.  A copy is provided at the Parent Meeting.  It will also be emailed to all parents.
